An Austin man arrested for drug possession during a routine traffic stop made his first appearance in Mower County District Court Tuesday. John Herbet Merten is facing multiple charges after a Mower County deputy stopped the 44 year old for speeding Oct. 4 on Country Road 14 and deputies found 13 grams of meth, drug paraphenlia, and $756.00 cash. Merten was being held at the Mower County Jail. His next court date is set for Oct. 19, according to court documents.
