21 year old Albert Lea man injured in police stand off turned shootout facing multiple charges

The 21 year old Albert Lea man injured in an hours long police stand off turned shootout at Shady Oaks apartments was released from St. Marys Hospital Sunday night. Devin Matthew Weiland was booked into the Freeborn County jail, in connection to the incident in which he is accused of shooting three people, including an Albert Lea officer, at the apartments, on S. Fourth Ave., according to a press release. He has a court date set for Tuesday in Freeborn County District Court. The investigation is ongoing.

While authorities worked to evacuate residents from the Shady Oaks Apartment complex early Sunday morning during the shooting, human remains were located in another unit. The Minnesota BCA announced that the death is not related to the active shooter incident. The remains have been taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office for identification and to determine the cause of death.
