Water rates rise with proposed new water tower in Albert Lea

(ABC 6 News) – Albert Lea is getting a new water tower, and that means rates will be going up. Albert Lea City Officials voted to demolish the old tower in the center of the city and build a new 40 foot water tower, with a $6.9 million dollar price tag. Customers will be paying about two percent more a year for five years. The water tower will be demolished in September, with a completion date expectd by 2023. The city has been wanting to get rid of the tower for more than a decade, and when the pandemic started, the planning phase was pushed back.
