Copper thieves ramping up in southeast Minnesota

ALBERT LEA, Minn. – Copper thieves have been ramping up in southeast Minnesota in recent months. The Freeborn County Sheriff’s office say they have taken several reports in the last month and a half of copper theft from various wind farms not only in Freeborn County but Mower County and Iowa, with the most recent report earlier this week in which the high commodity metal was stolen from a wind energy farm site near Albert Lea.
The sheriff’s office says they are beefing up patrols in areas that have been hit.
