BLUE EARTH COUNTY, Minn. – It was a bizarre scene that unfolded in nearby Blue Earth County, where an elderly man was attacked with a hammer Wednesday afternoon. According to the Sheriff’s Office, Arnold Duane Lillo, 83, reported being hit in the head several times by Brandon Lee McMurtrey, 34, who then fled in a pickup. Deputies spotted McMurtrey near County Roads 11 and 25, and a police pursuit ensued, reaching speeds around 100 miles per hour, before McMurtrey crashed head-on into a semi near 150th Street. McMurtrey had to be extricated from his truck and remains hospitalized with serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
