Infrastructure policy change promises to address Albert Lea housing crisis

Adressing the current housing crisis in Albert Lea is the goal of a recently announced infrastructure policy change. Under the proposed policy officials said construction projects can also receive 50% abatement for an additional three years to cover rehabilitation of existing vacant properties, instead of building new to gain a new tax base and new utility users. The Albert Lea City Council approved the proposal last week. It will now have to be passed by the Freeborn County commissioners, who will meet Tuesday.
