A police involved shooting left one man dead in Austin. The Austin Police Department said in a statement that an officer opened fire in the parking lot of a Kwik Trip gas station Thursday night after a more than 24 hour standoff that started Wednesday afternoon in the area of 7th Street Northwest and 8th Avenue Northwest where deputies responded to a report of a man walking in traffic with a machete. When officers arrived, the man allegedly barricaded himself in an apartment, where failed negotiations ended and he left and went to the Kwik Trip, where police say he then “confronted officers,” who shot and killed him. The shooting is now under investigation.
