Propane torch blamed for fire at Austin motocycle shop

(ABC6 News) – An Austin fire that caused $600,000 in damages began because of a small propane torch, Chief Jim McCoy of the Austin Fire Department said. The fire was sparked in the basement of M-D Custom Motorcycles on Feb. 17, when a worker at the repair shop, on 4th Ave SE, failed to properly turn off the torch he’d been using, McCoy said. It took multiple fire departments more than seven hours to contain the blaze. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
