Peace Officer Memorial Day honors those who have been killed or injured in the line of duty

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz named Sunday [May 15] Peace Officer Memorial Day in honor of peace officers who have been killed or injured in the line of duty. Right around midnight on Sunday, Retired Rochester Police Department Sargent Steve Franks played the bagpipes to honor the day and the dedicaiton and courage of police officers. The tribute took place in front of the Olmsted County Government Center. RPD calls it the tradition of the midnight piper. Walz also named the week of May 15 to May 21 Police Week.
