Southern Minnesota man arrested in 2021 undercover drug bust cops plea

MANKATO, Minn. – A southern Minnesota man arrested in an undercover drug bust just days after Thanksgiving last year has copped a plea. Michael Allen Smith, 38 of Mapleton, just NW of Albert Lea, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree drug possession, stemming from an investigaton that led police to searach his home where agents confiscated methamphetamine, marijuana, and various pills. Police also found multiple weapons, including an AR-15 rifle, a 20 gauge shotgun, two 9 mm handguns, a 38 caliber handgun, a 40 caliber handgun, and various types of ammunition. Smith is scheduled to be sentenced on July 5.
