Freeborn County and city of Albert Lea working to build severe weather shelter

ALBERT LEA, Minn. – Freeborn County and the city of Albert Lea are turning their attention to building an emergency shelter in southeast Albert Lea, as colder weather approaches. Officials are pursuing a grant from Homeland Security and Emergency Management to fund the extreme hazard shelter that would provide shelter for those that are exposed to severe weather conditions and are unable to quickly access safe shelter. Should the grant be accepted, the project would serve nearly 1,500 residents in the area.
