[n/al] – A settlement was reached Tuesday with a former inmate incarcerated in a neighboring Rice County jail, just north of Albert Lea, who accused a correctional officer of assault in 2019. Elizabeth Benjamin will receive $83,000 to dismiss the lawsuit against the county and a former jail deputy alleging excessive force and negligence. A similar excessive force lawsuit filed by a former inmate agasint the city of Faribault was settled last year for $50,000.
