Former Faribault Police captain facing criminal charges

A former Faribault Police captain accused of illegally using another officer’s computer to look up a relative’s personal information is now facing criminal charges. Accorcding to charging documents filed Monday, video showed Neal James Pederson, 54, in the officer’s squad car at the time the computer search was conducted. Pederson was issued a summons to make a first court appearance on Dec. 15. The 54 year old from Geneva was placed on paid administrative leave in September, and he has since retired. An internal Police Department investigation also was underway but was suspended when he resigned.
