Holiday spoofing calls have local and state authorities on high alert. Residents are being warned about scammers posing as police asking for personal information from individuals over the phone. The fraudsters are disguising their phone number to make it look like a legitimate law enforcement office, which is also referred to as “spoofing.” The DOJ’s Office of Consumer Protection encourages anyone targeted by these scammers to NEVER provide personal information over the phone.
