Drugs and crime are plaguing the Metro Transit system

Drugs and crime are plaguing the Metro Transit system. A trans woman was savagely beaten at Lake Street/Midtown Station and some openly use drugs, leaving light rail riders uncomfortable and afraid for their safety.
Metro Transit says crimes on transit-not just light rail-involving assault, fraud, gambling, theft, and sex and weapons offenses have more than doubled since 2022. One Minnesota lawmaker hopes to pass legislation in the coming weeks that would allocate $1 million for state agencies, counties and social service nonprofits to work together to address drug use-and homelessness-on the light rail.
