Gov. Walz said officials monitoring air for toxic chemicals after BNSF train derails

(AP) – Mn. Gov. Tim Walz said officials are monitoring the air for toxic chemicals after a BNSF train hauling ethanol and corn syrup went off the tracks and caught fire early Thursday, in a small Minnesota town north of Albert Lea. Minnesota officials said all of the town’s 250 homes were within 1/2 mile (0.8 kilometers) of the incident and hundreds of people had to evacuate. No injuries were reported. NTSB said a team would conduct a safety investigation.
