Fire at landfill near Albert Lea may be hazaradous to your health

Officials in southern Minnesota say a fire at a landfill may be hazaradous to your health and the environment. The fire at the Rice county landfill in Bridgewater Township, about 30 minutes or so from Albert Lea, started Monday evening. The Minnesota Pollution Control Agency is aware and county officials are monitoring the landfill fires which can cause respiratory issues. Officials advised people to avoid local sources of air pollution and limit outdoor activity.

MEANWHILE…

The fire is making the already hazy skies even worse and fire officials aren’t sure what started it or how to put it out.
People who live nearby say that’s concerning, as residents say they’re breathing in smoke and ash from the burning plastic which they can feel in their lungs, and they’re worried about the ash that’s falling and whether it’s harmful to humans, as well as livestock and the soil farmers are now plowing. Faribault Fire officials say the fire is burning some 30-feet deep.
