(ABC 6 News) – Several local pools are struggling to fill lifeguard positions this summer. Byron tries to get 12-15 lifeguards each summer but this year they have only been able to get eight, and many of them also had the holiday weekend off, and the city had to close the pool for the weekend. Byron also was not able to hold swimming lessons this year because of the shortage. The Austin pool has faced some issues with equipment and had to close Monday but that has sense been resolved.
