Albert Lea thinking outside the box to create rideshare services

(ABC 6 News) – Albert Lea is working to shore up rideshare drivers, admidst a shortage after the only taxi service closed operations. Former Uber and Lyft drivers say there likely aren’t local rideshare drivers because the apps don’t generate steady income in small towns. One local couple started with Uber, but soon created Vern’s Ride Service. Another transportation service in town is the Senior Services of Freeborn county, but officials say they’re short six volunteer drivers. Albert Lea Mayor Rich Murray says the city is working with community members to create more ride services in the city.
