Local correctional facilities thinking outside the box to fill staffing needs

Local correctional facilities are thinking outside the box to fill staffing needs amid a shortage of applicants. Job fairs and other outreach efforts are now a regular part of the recruitment process, as a hiring crunch takes place, not only as Baby Boomers retire, but also as a result of the “Great Resignation.” In 2021 alone, 47 million people quit their jobs, with many citing burnout and a desire for living wages. Also, in the wake of the pandemic the explosion of work-from-home opportunities resulted in an even greater than normal ongoing turnover among local jail staff.
