MASON CITY, Iowa – A Mason City man is going to jail for a tire iron beating in 2020 that left a man seriously injured. Brian Nathaniel Smith pleaded guilty to assault charges, stemming from the incident on July 19, 2020, in which investigators say the 39 year old hit another man repeatedly in the face and head with a tire iron in the 800 block of 9th Street NE, according to court documents. Smith was sentenced to 144 days in jail.
