An Austin man facing felony burglary and misdemeanor domestic abuse charges in Mower County District Court has learned his fate. 50-year old Joel Vargas was sentenced Friday to five years probation, stemming from a 2021 and 2023 incident in Austin. Vargas accepted a plea deal in the case on Thursday, and a misdemeanor charge of domestic assault was dismissed with Vargas’ guilty plea.
