Former county IT employee under investigation for possible data breach

The Freeborn County Board of Commissioners are investigating a report of county data being stored offsite by a former county IT employee. According to the Freeborn County Attorney’s Office, the county recently received a request to retrieve county data that had been backed up for 15 years at the former employee’s home. Commissioners approved filing a claim with the Minnesota Counties Intergovernmental Trust to determine whether the data was breached in any way.
