GLENVILLE, Minn. – Farmers all over the region are continuing to struggle as drought-like conditions plague their crops. The lack of rain has been a concern all summer long, with farmlands from Albert Lea to Glenville having received less than four inches of rain in the last two months, making it highly unlikely they’ll yield any usable crops by harvest time.

ALBERT LEA, MN.– The current drought conditions throughout the area is causing an increase of algae blooms on lakes- including Fountain Lake in Albert Lea. Those who might be headed to areas like Fountain Lake can detect the toxic blooms by it’s blue-green color which looks like spilled paint or pea soup, which thrive in the summer months, officials warned. According to the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency the blooms are harmful to humans and animals. If you spot the blue-green algae you’re urged to notify your local law enforcement or Sheriff’s office to let them know so they can alert people.
